Head of state concerned about consumer protection
President Vladimir Voronin considers that the rights of the consumers are not effectively protected and demanded taking urgent measures to improve the situation, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the presidential press service.
While chairing a Supreme Security Council’s meeting centering on the protection of consumers’ rights, the head of state said that the legal and institutional framework is imperfect. He also said that the work of the Ministry of Economy and Trade, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources is inefficient, according to the communiqué from the presidential press unit.
“The activity of the mentioned state institutions is dispersed and their functioned are doubled. Consequently, the quality of the products and services provided on the home market is not adequately ensured,” Vladimir Voronin said. “We have a lot of inspection institutions that monitor how the consumers’ rights are observed, but the protection of the interests of the people and the state as regards the consumption of products and services is not guaranteed. As a result, the public health and the security of the population can be ultimately affected,” the president said.
Vladimir Voronin ordered the creation of a working group that would propose solutions to improve the legal and institutional framework for consumer protection.
The head of state also stressed the necessity of imposing strict conditions as regards the quality of the imported goods and of monitoring the importation of genetically modified products.
