The President of Moldova can reject a candidate for minister proposed by the Prime Minister only once, by providing explanations, president of the Constitutional Court (CC) Alexandru Tanase said, reading the Court’s decision on the requisition submitted by Liberal MPs. Under the decision, the Premier can suggest another candidate for minister or can propose again the first, IPN reports.
The Court said the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova does not stipulate a concrete time limit for naming the Cabinet. However, so as not to affect governance, the Cabinet or a minister should be named within 14 days.
Alexandru Tanase noted that the taking of an oath by the President is not a formal act, but a public commitment to obey the Constitution. Also, the President’s political will cannot annul the powers of the Premier.
MPs of the Liberal Party asked the Constitutional Court to specify the powers of the President and Prime Minister related to Cabinet reshuffling.
