The director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin accuses the United States of preparing a “colored” revolution in the Republic of Moldova if the pro-Russian President Igor Dodon wins a new term in office in the November 1 presidential elections, IPN reports, with reference to Radio Free Europe.

“Now we clearly see that the Americans are preparing a ‘revolutionary’ scenario for Moldova too, after the events in Belarus and Kirgizstan,” says a statement by Naryshkin disseminated by the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia and quoted by the Russian agency Itar-Tass. Sergey Naryshkin also said that the Department of Stare instructed the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau to get ready for mass protests in the event that Igor Dodon is reelected and to demand that the elections be rerun.

Last week, similar accusations were made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov.

During the last months and weeks, the U.S. Ambassador in Chisinau Dereck Hogan asked to ensure free and fair elections on November 1. In an interview last week, Hogan expressed his concern about the Transnistrians’ vote in the presidential elections following suspicions that many of them were brought in an organized way to polling stations opened for them on the right side of the Nistru in the parliamentary elections of 2019.

On October 20, the Central Election Commission decided that only motor vehicles with a capacity of at most eight seats and vehicles transporting passengers by regular routes will be allowed to move on the country’s territory on the day of the presidential elections of November 1, between 7am and 9pm. The measure is aimed at avoiding the organized transportation of voters to polling stations by electoral contenders or third persons on the election day.
