The achievements and challenges experienced by Moldova in the process of implementing the Association Agreement with the EU and the internal developments were presented by Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu in a meeting with a delegation of the American Jewish Committee led by David Harris, IPN reports.
According to the legislature’s press service, Andrian Candu referred to the current political and parliamentary agenda and the synchronization of the agendas of the Government and Parliament in implementing the priority reforms. According to him, the legislative priorities for the immediate future include the reforms in the financial-banking sector, the fight against corruption, ensuring of security in the energy system, creation of attractive conditions for the business sector and protection instruments for foreign investors.
“Moldova’s integration into the EU is not an easy process because we must modify not only the legislation, but also the people’s mentality. The biggest challenge for the authorities is to regain the confidence of the people and the development partners,” stated Andrian Candu.
The Speaker reiterated the importance of strengthening the strategic dialogue with the U.S., including for increasing the number of American projects in Moldova. He underlined Moldova’s commitment to promote tolerance, nondiscrimination and the fight against anti-Semitism. Andrian Candu informed that by a Parliament decision of 2015, January 27 was declared a Holocaust Remembrance Day. This way Moldova joined the states that commemorate the victims of this tragedy.
The American Jewish Committee this year celebrates 110 years of work. This is one of the most influential American Jewish organizations that promote the fight against anti-Semitism and discrimination. It pleads for protecting the rights of national minorities and plays an active role in promoting Moldova’s interests in the U.S. Congress.
