Head of Fălești district suspended from post

The head of Fălești district Sergiu Fîntîna was suspended from post by a majority of votes of district councilors on April 16. The suspension proposal was submitted after a criminal case over driving under the influence of alcohol was started against him. The Socialist group left the meeting of the Fălești District Council before the issue started to be examined, IPN reports.

Sergiu Fîntînă is also suspected of using public funds for the wrong purpose and for personal purposes. An internal inquiry will be conducted to determine all the circumstances of the acts imputed to the district head.

Sergiu Fîntînă will remain suspended until a final decision is taken in his case. He will no longer get a salary and will be unable to use the official car and stamp.

The deputy head of the local organization of the Party of Socialists Sergiu Fîntînă was elected head of the Fălești District Council on November 30, 2019. According to the portal nordnews.md, he was caught driving inebriated on November 24, 2020 and also on March 19, 2021.
