Head of Cricova Dwellers Association and her husband caught taking bribe

The head of the Cricova Dwellers Association and her husband were arrested on bribery charges after asking for a commission of 125,000 lei from a company that was to carry out construction works, IPN reports, quoting the National Anticorruption Center.

Last weekend, the two suspects were caught red-handed, after taking 62,000 lei from the denouncer. Sums of US$2,300 and US$1,000 were transmitted earlier in two tranches. All the money, including those handed over under the supervision of anticorruption officers, was found at the suspects’ home.

Following a complaint filed by a representative of the construction company, the National Anticorruption Center started a criminal case over bribe taking.

The two suspects were placed under arrest for 72 hours initially. They face a fine of up to 120,000 lei or three to ten years in jail. In both of the cases, they will be banned from holding particular posts or performing particular activities for a period of five to seven years.
