Head of Constitutional Court of Lithuania awarded Order of Honor of Moldova

The President of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania Dainius Žalimas was conferred the Order of Honor of the Republic of Moldova for substantial contribution to developing interdepartmental cooperation in the area of constitutional law between Lithuania and Moldova, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Constitutional Court of Moldova says Dainius Žalimas made a special contribution to developing the relations of friendship and cooperation between Moldova and Lithuania and constantly supported the European integration process and strengthening of the democratic values.

As the president of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania, he played a decisive role in creating the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of Baltic and Black Sea Regions and also supported the Batumi Process that condemned the use of constitutional courts as an instrument of legalizing the violation of international law by occupying the territories of other states.

Owing to Dainius Žalimas’s support, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova became a beneficiary of the EU-funded project “Assistance to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova”.

A Doctor of Law and university professor, Dainius Žalimas visited Moldova for several times and gave lectures and presentations on international and constitutional law, including as an nternational researcher, within the Higher Education Support Program of Open Society Foundations.
