Head of Chisinau Public Transport Division fired

The head of the Chisinau Public Transport Division Igor Gamretski was dismissed by 28 votes of 51 in the February 11 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC). The decision was taken after Igor Gamretski was questioned by the councilors on the setting up of parking lots, IPN reports.

The CMC gave a vote of no-confidence to the head of the Public Transport Division. The councilors argued that Igor Gamretski signed a public-private partnership contract for the building of parking lots in Chisinau without obtaining the Council’s consent first.

Nineteen Socialist councilors, five councilors of the European People’s Party, two Communist councilors, a councilor of the “Our Party” and unaffiliated councilor Ion Stefanita voted for the dismissal of Igor Gamretki. One Communist councilor abstained, while the Liberal-Democrat was absent. The councilors of the Liberal Party had left the meeting.

In the same meeting, Oleg Poiata was discharged from the post of head of Centru district of Chisinau by the votes of 27 councilors of the CMC on February 11. The General Trade Division’s head Marcel Zambitski and the acting director of the Central Market Veaceslav Balan were reprimanded. The decisions were taken following hearings on the gas cylinder explosion that occurred in a café located near the Central Market on January 9. Afterward, the Chisinau City Hall issued a press release saying the given decisions are illegal.
