A man from Sangerei district was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for assaulting an 87-year-old woman, trying to rape her and stealing three thousand lei from her, IPN reports.

According to the General Prosecutor's Office, the perpetrator had come to Briceni district for seasonal work. In July 2019, after consuming alcoholic beverages, he entered the dwelling of an old woman from Trestieni village in the middle of the night. Using force, he stole her money. The man knocked her down, trying to rape her, but failed because he was drunk.

For the committed acts, Edinet Court, Briceni headquarters, sentenced him to five years and six months of detention. The man is 48 years old.
