Harvesting in case of a number of crops will be one month late, NFF

The harvesting in the case of a number of field crops will be one month late owing to the low temperatures witnessed in April, executive director of the National Farmers Federation (NFF) Vasile Mârzenco stated for IPN.

According to Vasile Mârzenco, the low temperatures of April negatively influenced the growth of particular perennial crops, fruit trees and even sowed crops. “We will harvest not at the start of June, but at the start of July. Last year, the low temperatures had a not very good influence on the development of crops and the harvesting season was late even for fruit and grapes. The situation can repeat this autumn,” said the Federation’s manager.

Vasile Mârzenco added that the crops were affected by the cold weather of the last few weeks to a small extent, but they suffer more due to the shortage of nitric oxide nutrition because many of the farmers were unable to buy fertilizers this year. “The fertilizers are three-four times more expensive than last year and many of the farmers cannot afford to buy them at the price of 20,000-24,000 lei a tonne,” explained the executive director of the NFF.
