Harvest of second-group crops is promising

The 732,000 hectares sowed with sunflower, sugar beet, corn and other crops of the second group are in a good state and the harvest is expected to be large, said Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov, quoted by IPN.

“It is planned to collect 650,000 tonnes of oil-bearing plants - by 2 tonnes per hectare of sunflower and by 1.8 tonnes per hectare of soybean. About 300,000 tonnes are needed for internal consumption and the remaining quantity will be exported in natural form or in the form of oils. The global corn harvest is projected to total 1.25 million tonnes, with a productivity of 4 tonnes per hectare. There will be harvested 900,000 tonnes of sugar beet from which there will be produce 110,000 tonnes of sugar. It will be exported according to the quotas provided by the EU,” said the minister.

He also said that after the joint meeting of the college boards of the Agriculture Ministries of Moldova and Russia that was held in Chisinau, the Russian authorities provided five new terminals for the export of Moldovan fresh fruit and vegetables.

“As a result, about 100,000 tonnes of fruit and vegetables have been exported to Russia this summer, as against 70,000 tonnes last summer,” he said.
