The persons caught driving under the influence will be striped of license until the court of law takes a decision. Within three days, the court will decide whether to return the license or not and, if not, for how long the person will be unable to drive. No temporary driver’s license will be issued. The new legal provisions took effect today, December 14, IPN reports.
The driver who is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or other substances will be obliged to take the alcotest and have medical examinations and to give blood at the request of the ascertaining agent.
The vehicle of the person who is prevented from driving will be taken by the police to a special parking place. The procedure will cost the driver 250 lei, plus 50 lei for each parking hour, until the owner comes to take the car.
The driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances or the giving of the car to a person who is under the influence of alcohol or other substances for driving this is penalized with a fine of 17,500 to 25,000 lei or 40 to 60 hours of community services, in both of the cases with ban on driving for a period of six months to a year.
The persons caught driving inebriated after they were banned from driving by court decision will be obligated to attend an anti-alcohol and anti-drug probation program that will be decided by the probation counselor.
