The Cabinet approved a series of legislative amendments and supplements aimed at ensuring information security and combating crimes committed by using information technology, including child abuse, IPN reports.

The bill fills the gaps in the legislation on the prevention and combating of offenses related to the online sexual exploitation of children. The jail term for the production and distribution of child pornography will be extended from one to three years to three to seven years.

Among the goals are to technically ensure the interception of data transmitted through electronic communication networks and to initiate cooperation between doctors and representatives of the Ministry of the Interior with the aim of defending the rights of the victims of abuse and of holding the offenders accountable.

The bill also aims to fight online bank fraud, including the stealing of personal or bank details and performance of virtual financial operations, and to ensure the secrecy of email.

The draft law adjusts the national legislation to the international legal framework, including the provisions of the Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime, the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, and the European Parliament’s Directive on combating the sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children and child pornography.
