Hare hunting season opens
The hare hunting season opens on December 2. It will close in the middle of January. The hunting limit was set at 22,000 hares. A person can hunt one hare a day and will pay nothing for it, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Oleg Ciocoi, the head of the Society of Hunters and Fishermen, said that 15,000 to 18,000 hares are usually hunted during a season. The people hunt fewer hares than the limit because the hare population in the country is sparse. Normally, there should be 150-200 hares on 1,000 hectares of land. In Moldova, there are only 35-40 hares.
Given that the fox population is dense, the hares do not manage to breed sufficiently. There are 25 foxes on average per 1,000 hectares, but there should be only 1 or 2 foxes. Oleg Ciocoi said that 25 foxes per 35 hares is too much. The hunters decide to close the hunting season when the hare population becomes sparser.
