The 24-year-old inspector of Poganesti village of Hancesti district is investigated for passive corruption. He is suspected of asking for 5,000 lei from a person for hushing up a case of hooliganism. The policeman has worked in the internal affairs bodies for two years, IPN has learned from the National Anticorruption Center.
The arrest was made in Hancesti town, near the bus terminal. The police officer was caught red-handed and he voluntarily yielded up the money. He faces up to ten years in jail and a fine of up to 100,000 lei. He may be also banned from occupying particular posts for a period of up to five years.
Twenty police officers have been arrested for acts of corruption so far this year.
