Hancesti Council's Christian Democrats complain of persecution
Members of the Christian Democratic People's Party (PPCD) in the Hancesti District Council are complaining of being persecuted by the chairman of the council, Anatol Chetraru, Info-Prim Neo reports.
They told a press conference on Wednesday the persecutions started after their faction passed into opposition.
The reason for holding the press conference was the Council's decision last week to suspend PPCD's Igor Turcanu from the post of deputy chairman of the Council, in connection with legal proceedings initiated by the Prosecutor General's Office.
Igor Turcanu said that Anatol Chetraru, the Council's chairman, is the father of the head of the Anticorruption Center, suggesting that the chairman is using this relation to persecute the Christian Democrats in the Council.
The persecutions, according to the speakers at the conference, include phone tapping and constant surveillance.
Talking about the criminal proceedings initiated against three PPCD councilmen and the wife of another Christian Democrat, lawyer Svetlana Chesari said the charges were trumped up: “The proceedings were initiated on the order of corrupt bureaucrats, because the PPCD is an inconvenient force in a district where corruption is at its height”.
