Half of trafficked women become traffickers
Statistics show that nearly half of the trafficked women later become members of organized criminal groups. Prosecutor Eduard Bulat, head of the division against human trafficking at the Prosecutor General’s Office, has told Info-Prim Neo that most of the victims of trafficking are selected by the criteria of social vulnerability, poor education and naivety.
After they return to Moldova, the former victims become members of the very groups that trafficked them or start their own criminal groups. They are driven mostly by financial factors, as well as psychological ones. “The worst part is that the frequency of such crimes transformed them into a phenomenon”, said Eduard Bulat.
The most common destinations for human trafficking are Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
