Half of rural population of Chisinau municipality drinks fresh water
Over half of the rural population of the municipality of Chisinau (about 68,000 people) drinks water from wells. However, the water in 93.3% of the wells does not meet the hygienic conditions by sanitary-chemical indicators, while in 63.3% of the wells – by microbiological indicators, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Municipal Preventive Medicine Center.
Tests in Cricova, Truseni, Vatra, Ciorescu, Ghidighici, Durlesti, Vadul lui Voda, Bacioi, Bubuieci and Colonita have shown high levels of pollutants in the water, especially nitrates. In nine settlements, the water is massively polluted with intestinal flora.
Half of the wells in the municipality are not outfitted according to the sanitary norms. There is no roof, concrete belt and bucket. The distance from pollution sources is not observed, specialists of the Municipal Preventive Medicine say.
Doctors warn about the possible serious consequences of nitrate consumption for health, which can be even fatal for kids younger that one. In the body, the nitrates turn into nitrites that combine with other substances and block the transportation of oxygen from lungs to tissues.
