Half of money collected in Road Fund to be distributed to local budgets

Half of the money accumulate as road taxes will be distributed to the budgets of local public authorities, depending on the number of inhabitants, while the money will be used to rehabilitate and build roads in villages. The new mechanism for distributing the Road Fund is specified in a bill that was passed by Parliament in the final reading, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, which drafted the bill, said the mechanism is common and efficient and envisions clear and transparent distribution of the Road Fund, by excluding political criteria.

According to the Ministry, 385.9 million lei will be distributed to the district councils stating with this year, by about 115,000 lei per 1,000 inhabitants. The money will be managed by the local authorities and will go to pay for feasibility studies, to design local roads, to finance maintenance works in winter and other current works on local roads.
