Half of Moldova’s population is not satisfied with living conditions and cannot say how life would change during next two years

59% of Moldova’s population is not contented with their way of life, the sociological survey “Vox Populi” for November-December 2008 says. The satisfaction index is higher in towns than in rural areas. About 25% of the respondents cannot say whether they are satisfied or not with the living conditions, Info-Prim Neo reports. The respondents are mainly dissatisfied with the sum of money that they can administer, the political situation in the country, the medical services. 72% of those surveyed are concerned about the rising prices of the food products and energy resources, 43% - about the future of the children, 35% - about the large number of people that emigrate abroad, 32% - about unemployment, 30% - about corruption in the civil service, 27% - about criminality and violation of human rights. 53% of the respondents consider that the things in the country go in the wrong direction, 21% said they go in the right direction, while 24% do not know how the things develop. 25% of those questioned think that the economic situation in the country has worsened during the past five years, while 16% consider that it has worsened considerably. At the same time, each third respondent said that the situation has improved and only 2% said that it has improved significantly. Each fifth respondent considers the economic situation has not changed. Each fourth person said that the situation would improve during the next two years, while each fifth person expects negative changes. 29% of the respondents hope that their families will live better in two years, 7% consider that their families will live worse, while 3% - much worse. 58% of those polled could not clearly say how their life would change during the next two years. The men, the persons with higher education, the young people and those whose financial situation is good have better expectations of life. The survey is an initiative of the Association of European Election Officials and the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova. It covered a sample of 1,578 persons and has a margin of error of 2.6%.
