Half of Moldova's players hold Russian citizenship, FIFA agent says
FIFA agent Leonid Istrati came with shocking news just one day ahead Moldova's qualifier against Israel: more than a half of the players selected to play tomorrow for the national team, aka Selecţionata, hold Russian citizenship, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In another statement made by Leonid Istrati for www.eurofotbal.info, he says that the case of Nicolae Josan and Alexandru Gatcan, who turned down coach Dobrovolski's offer to play for Selecţionata, might create an irreversible precedent. “Their contracts miss to stipulate the obligation to play for the national team, all the more since they hold Russian citizenship. Their case could reoccur with other players in the same situation”, said Istrati.
The agent went on to warn that Moldova must look for solutions to avoid losing other valuable players.
