Half of districts downgraded to code orange

Half of the districts in Moldova are no longer under code red coronavirus restrictions, being brought down to orange, announced Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița at the beginning of the Government’s meeting today.

“If this downward trend continues and there is an increasingly lower incidence, we could soon be back to a normal situation. Already half of the districts have been brought down from code red to orange. We very much hope that by the spring we can go green nationwide and return to normalcy”, she stated.

According to the National Agency on Public Health, 18 areas are still under red alerts, including the cities of Chisinau and Balti, the Gagauz autonomy, the Transnistrian region, and 14 districts. 18 districts are now under code orange restrictions.

The official coronavirus case count in Moldova stands at over 488,000 cases. The seven-day incidence is now at 451 cases per 100,000 population, down by 40.2% on the previous seven-day period.
