Promotion of energy efficiency, social propaganda, responsibility and stimulation of interest are of major importance in conserving electric power and heat. The actions were debated in public discussions organized by the public association “Gutta-Club”, which were themed “Moldova lags behind the European and neighboring countries as regards energy efficiency and saving – what can we do to improve the situation and what is the role of civil society in this process?” Info-Prim Neo reports. “We prepared a program defining the measures that must be taken to save electric power and heat in our country during the next years. It is planned that the volume of used energy resources that pollute the environment will be decreased by 20% until 2020, while the use of bioresources for obtaining energy will be increased,” said Vladimir Berzan, vice director on science of the Energy Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. During the discussions, Silvia Radu, president of the power supplier Gas Natural Fenosa, said the power suppliers want the electricity to be saved as the inefficient use of the electrical energy generates expenses both to the end-users and suppliers. “In order to save energy, we must implement efficient policies and clear regulations. The people must understand that by saving energy they protect the environment in which we live and in which our children will grow,” said Silvia Radu. According to Elena Grecu, teacher of biology at the High School “Literrarum”, the teachers play an important role in promoting energy conservation. “We work with the students, carry out different activities, contests and seminars to help them understand the importance of efficiently using the energy. For their part, they transmit the accumulated knowledge to the other members of the family. It is a chain reaction. More and more people realize how important the rational use of energy is,” said Elena Grecu. Natalia Halaim, coordinator of the Spare Project of “Gutta-Club”, said the association makes considerable effort to educate the sprit of environment protection by efficiently using the energy. “The association “Gutta-Club” aims to form a new generation that would protect the environment by saving energy. Moldova experiences a shortage of energy resources. That’s why they must opt for the use of energy bioresources,” said Natalia Halaim. The National Center for Children and Youth “Gutta-Club” is a nonprofit environment protection organization. The national contest “Energy and Environment” is held annually within the Spare Project. Afterward, the participants can attend an ecological summer school, where they learn by playing. “Gutta-Club” has organized such eco-schools since 2005.
