Guidebook for Balti social workers

The social workers in Balti will benefit from a guidebook titled “Map of Social Services” that was compiled and published within the Strengthening the Capacity of the Reference System Project. The brochure will be presented in about three months. The guidebook contains information about children suffering from HIV/AIDS, children whose parents are abroad and disabled children, Jana Chihai, the head of SOMATO Association that is involved in the implementation of the project, told Info-Prim Neo. “The brochure represents a database, a guidebook for nongovernmental organizations, social institutions and other authorities. It will be of benefit especially to the social workers because they are the first who identify the social problems and should know how to act in certain situations,” Jana Chihai said. The budget of the project is about 800,000 lei. The money is provided by UNICEF. Three institutions are involved in the project: the Balti City Hall, SOMATO Association that takes care especially of persons with mental disorders, and the Institute for Penal Reform. There are about 27,000 children aged under 18 in Balti. According to official data, approximately 1,800 of them form part of socially underprivileged groups of people. Over 1,000 deprived families live in the city.
