Moldova showed that it is a reliable partner that is successfully implementing the Compact Program and the Millennium Challenge Corporation will thus treat very seriously Moldova’s request to continue the program in the country, Vice President of the Department of Compact Operations Kamran Khan said in a meeting with the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova Vlad Filat, who is in the United States on a visit, IPN reports.
Kamran Khan said that in the new circumstances generated by the crisis in Ukraine and Russia’s behavior, the guaranteeing of Moldova’s energy independence is a strategic matter.
The problem of national security of Moldova and the energy security issue are interdependent, said Vlad Filat, noting that the implementation of the second phase of the Compact is a vital necessity for the country.
“For us, it is crucial to build another 70 km of gas pipes and a pumping and compressor station for natural gas in the direction of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline. These investments will enable to connect the country to a new source of gas and this will ensure Moldova’s energy independence,” said Vlad Filat.
The Liberal-Democratic leader’s visit to the U.S. lasted from May 18 to May 24.
