Guarantee tax for cars older than seven canceled
The residents of Moldova who will enter the country with cars older than seven that were registered abroad will not have to pay a guarantee tax at the customs anymore. The Government introduced amendments to the law concerning the taking of goods into and out of Moldova by private individuals at a meeting on March 22, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Minister of Finance Veaceslav Negruta, the residents of Moldova as well as the nonresidents are obliged to pay a customs tax varying between €2,000 and €3,000, depending the capacity and type of the vehicle, as guarantee that they will not sell the vehicle while inside the country. This fact aroused dissatisfaction among the Moldovans who work and live abroad and come home to see their relatives.
"Instead of using this money for the family, they have to leave it at the customs. When they go back, the money is returned to them, but the sums happen to be lower owing to the variations in the currency exchange rates. We suggest removing this obstacle for the resident persons and allowing them using the vehicles in the country during two months. If this term is broken, the person will be punished in accordance with the law,” Veaceslav Negruta said.
Premier Vlad Filat said the given amendments will be discussed in Parliament later and asked the minister of finance and the head of the Customs Service to work out a temporary procedure that could be approved by the Government so that the guarantee tax is not paid during the next two weeks, when a large number of Moldovans working abroad will come home for the Easter holidays.
Article 20 of the mentioned law continues to apply to nonresident persons.
