GUAM advocates strengthening UN collaboration with regional organizations as regards peacekeeping activity
The Ukrainian minister of Foreign Affairs, Vladimir Handoghii pleaded on behalf of GUAM in favor of strengthening the collaboration between UN and the regional organizations as regards the peacekeeping activity. He made this statement at a recent meeting of UN General Assembly with the regional organizations.
The Ukrainian diplomat proposed as well to amplify the actions aiming at settling frozen conflicts on the territories of GUAM member states – Georgia, Azerbaijan and Moldova. “It is very important that the international organizations, UN and OSCE in particular, sustain concrete actions for the settlement of these frozen conflicts which impede establishing democracy and economical development in the region”, the official declared.
As well, the Ukrainian diplomat considers that the talks on this issue at the 61st UN session will contribute at settling these conflicts.
During his speech, Handoghii pleaded in favor of a tighter collaboration between UN and GUAM.
