Group that attacked Russian TV star Alexandr Tsekalo under arrest

Five members of a criminal group suspected of committing a number of offences in Moldova, Russia and EU member states were arrested by the Chisinau police, Alexandru Jizdan, the head of the Interior Ministry’s Ground Services Division, told a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to Jizdan, all the members of the group are from Iermoclia village of Stefan Voda district and have criminal records over similar offences. The five are suspected of robbing a company in Causeni and a mayor’s office in Grigorevca village of Causeni district this autumn. Earlier they committed a number of crimes in the Russian city of Saint-Petersburg. The police suspect that the given group attacked the Russian TV star Alexandr Tsekalo a year ago and stole over US$250,000, including valuable watches and jewels, from him. At their places in Stefan Voda, Causeni, Criuleni, Ungheni and Chisinau, the police found a large number of arms, among which Kalashnikov guns and pistols, and gold jewelry. ”The police in Russia, which cooperate with the Moldovan police in identifying thefts committed by Moldovans in Russia this year, recognized a part of the jewels,” Alexandru Jizdan said.
