A group of NGOs are lunching the Civic Initiative for Integrity in the Public Service, which aims to intensify control over the integrity of persons who hold public posts and to increase the efficiency of the mechanism for controlling and examining their property and interests, IPN reports.

Director of the Journalistic Investigations Center Cornelia Cozonac told a roundtable meeting that there will be monitored the property and personal interest statements of at least 200 high-ranking officials.

The members of the Initiative will also assess the activity and performance of the National Integrity Commission and the methods of accessing relevant information for determining the integrity of persons holding public posts. There will be examined the legal framework concerning integrity and formulated the necessary recommendations. Journalistic investigations will be carried out, which will serve as information sources for voters in the election campaign.

The collected information will be published on the portal www.moldovacurata.md.

“The Civic Initiative for Integrity in the Public Service has a double approach. It monitors institutional and legal aspects and simultaneously identifies separate suspect cases of corruption. Proposals will be formulated for solving such cases,” said Olga Crivoliubic, director of the Good Governance Program of Soros Foundation Moldova.

Executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT) Igor Botan said the coming election campaign is a challenge for the Initiative. The income and interest statements will be classified depending on the information tat will be relevant for the following journalistic investigations.

The Civic Initiative for Integrity in the Public Service is promoted by the Independent Press Association, the Center for the Analysis and Prevention of Corruption, ADEPT, the Journalistic Investigations Center, and Soros Foundation Moldova.
