Group of initiative demands punishment of vandals who desecrated Commemorative Stone

Academicians, writers, doctors of History and politicians call upon society to sign a Memorandum regarding history and national values and demand the authorities to punish those who desecrated the Commemorative Stone in the National Assembly Square, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Recently, vandals have desecrated the Commemorative Stone in the National Assembly Square, the only monument dedicated to Basarabians’ tragedy after the Soviet invasion in 1940. After 20 years of independence, occupants still feel at home on our soil. Ridiculous people still think they live in the USSR and try to adjust our history to the parameters of the Soviet ideology”, reads the Memorandum. Those who signed the declaration demand the Government to find financial sources to raise the Monument of National Heroes and Martyrs in the Great National Assembly Square in remembrance of the anti-Soviet fighters, of those who defended Moldova’s independence and of the victims of the Communist totalitarian regime. “We urge the Parliament to adopt the Law forbidding Communist and totalitarian symbols in Moldova. The false values of the non-existent Soviet state must be forbidden. Generations of fighters sacrificed to separate from the USSR”, reads the declaration. The group of initiative proposed the creation of the National Movement “People’s Memory” and called upon all those who cared about the country and national traditions to support the declaration and join the Movement. The declaration is signed by Alexandru Mosanu, Andrei Esanu, Nicolae Dabija, Mihai Cimpoi, Valeriu Matei, Gheorghe Negru, Arcadie Suceveanu, Sergiu Chirca, Gheorghe Ghidirim, Ion Negrei, Anatol Petrencu, Ion Buga, Ion Varta, Mihai Tasca, Ion Siscanu, Valentina Sturza, Gheorghe Marzencu, Mihail Tardea, Vasile Ghiaur, Ion Padure, Alexandru Soltoianu, Tudor Basarabeanu, Petru Ciobanu, Anatol Caraman, Vasile Iovu, Petre Neamtu, Maria Mocanu, Elena Postica, Petru Bogatu, Alexe Rau, Vasile Bahnaru, Val Butnaru, Valentina Butnaru. On December 19, the Commemorative Stone from the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau was smeared with black paint.
