The police arrested a criminal group that includes persons with responsible posts in different state bodes on suspicion that they counterfeit ethyl alcohol and illegally sold it abroad. Contacted by IPN, press officer of the Ministry of the Interior Alina Merlici said the information concerning the number of arrested persons and the bodies where they work cannot be yet made public.
It was established that the suspects produced and illegally transported abroad considerable quantities of ethyl alcohol, without declaring it. On April 2, the police stopped a truck conveying ethyl alcohol without documents of origin in Orhei district.
As a result of the searches carried out later, the police also found 42 tonnes of ethyl alcohol, 12 tonnes of raw material used to make it and foreign currency obtained from the sale of alcohol. There were also identified rough documents proving that the group worked illegally.
The Ministry of the Interior said more details about this case will be provided when the documentation procedure is completed.
