Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu said that within a month and a half from the entry into force of the law on the creation of the Anticorruption and Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office (PACCO), it must already be functional. The official stressed that the authorities will closely monitor the process to ensure that the objective is achieved, IPN reports.
"In a maximum of one and a half months from the moment the law is published and comes into force, it must be functional. We will make sure that this will happen because we will insist on this," Igor Grosu explained in the talk show "In Depth" on ProTV Chisinau chanel.
The Speaker noted that the draft law was discussed with representatives of the European Commission, and the European partners support the government's efforts in the fight against corruption. At the same time, Grosu stressed that the law on the creation of the PACCO will be submitted to the Venice Commission for examination.
"We will send the document to the Venice Commission, even if the law will be in force. When the comments come from there, we will correct what needs to be corrected. The issue was already discussed with the European Commission. We found understanding and support there," said Igor Grosu.
The official suggested that the former head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office Veronica Dragălin has political ambitions and intends to get involved in politics. He noted that, in such a case, Dragălin should not use the image of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office as a launch pad.
"Judging by the way the events develop and by the appearances in the public space, and by their frequency, we deduce that she intends to get involved in politics. Why not? There is room and demand for new politicians. The important thing is not to get active in politics at the expense of institutions because this is called using administrative resources," Igor Grosu said.
On February 19, Veronica Dragalin announced her decision to resign as the head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office. A day later, the draft law providing for the creation of the Anticorruption and Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office was given a first reading and adopted by the votes of 61 MPs. According to the authors of the draft law, the legislative initiative comes to strengthen the efforts to combat corruption and organized crime by bringing together competences in a unified specialized institution.
