Gross external debt up 2.7% in nine months

The gross external debt of the Republic of Moldova since the start of this year has grown by 2.7% to US$8.664,18 million on September 30. This is over 66% of the Gross Domestic Product (-4.5 percentage points on December 31, 2020), IPN reports.

The National Bank of Moldova’s data show the long-term debt represents 70.4% of the gross external debt. On September 30, this debt was US$6.099,72 million, up 1.5% since the beginning of the year.

The short-term debt rose by 5.7% in January-September 2021 to US$2.564,46 million on September 30, 2021.

The external public debt constituted 30.3% of the external debt, coming to US$2.623,66 million (+8% since January). The external private debt totaled US$6.040,52 million, up 0.6% on December 31, 2020.
