A commemorative plaque representing poet Grigore Vieru was unveiled today on the facade of the building situated at 7 Nicolae Iorga St, where the poet lived for 19 years. The event forms part of the activities of the second International Festival “Grigore Vieru”, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The plaque with Grigore Vieru's image is the closest to my soul among the plaques I did. In the lower part of the plaque, I engraved a circle of ears as the grass, land and home are always present in Vieru's poems,” said the author of the commemorative plaque Romi Adam. “I like this plaque very much. The image on this plaque is identical to Grigore Vieur,” said the poet's wife Raisa Vieru. Mihai Cimpoi, the head of the Writers Union of Moldova, said that image immortalized in bronze is the true image of Grigore Vieru. “This plaque marks the place where the great bard Grigore Vieru wrote his poems about mother, childhood, homeland and where he lived,” said the academician. The marble and bronze plaque weighs over 60 kg. The unveiling ceremony was attended by officials of the Chisinau City Hall, guests from the Romanian town Alba Iulia, children of the Ciocana school “Grigore Vieru”, literary critics, writers, people or art and ordinary people who admired Grigore Vieru. The poet died on the night of January 18, 2009, 48 hours after he was injured in a road accident. In the house located on Nicolae Iorga St, he lived from 1990 until 2009. Several schools in Moldova and a Boulevard in Chisinau bear the name of Grigore Vieru. Busts of the poet have been put up on the Classical Writers Alley in Chisinau, Iasi and Alba Iulia.
