A bust of poet Grigore Vieru will be placed in Cahul town, in the central park that bears his name, IPN reports, quoting a Government decision.

The costs for making and placing the bust will be covered with sponsorships and with money from the town’s budget.

Poet Grigore Vieru was a corresponding member of the Academy of Romania and Doctor Honoris Causa of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. He was conferred the Diploma of Honor “Andersen” of the International Board on Books for Young People, the International Poetry Prize “Lucian Blaga” and the “Opera Omnia” Prize of the Writers Union of Moldova.

Grigore Vieru died on January 18, 2009 as a result of a cardiac arrest, 48 hours of the occurrence of the road accident in which he was seriously hurt. He was 73.
