Poet Grigore Vieru, who passed away three years ago, was remembered by relatives, friends and officials at his grave situated in Chisinau’s Central Cemetery on January 18, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said that Grigore Vieru had a dream. “Vieru said that ‘some dream of reaching cosmos, while I my whole life have dreamt of crossing the Prut,” stated the mayor. “He wanted to cross the river in a certain way – without borders and documents. Unfortunately, this is not yet possible, but it will become a reality someday. If we do not achieve this aim, our children or the children of our children will do it.” Dorin Chirtoaca also said that work is yet to be done to lay out the poet’s grave. According to him, the City Hall will contribute to preparing the funeral stone. Writer Nicolae Dabija said the poet lives through his works. “When Grigore Vieru was alive, the politicians though what he will say when they did something, but now they fear no one,” he said. On January 16, 2009, the poet sustained serious injuries in a road accident and died in the hospital two days later as a result of a heart attack.
