The sincerity of parties after 2009 has been not the expected one. Each political party is trying to distinguish itself differently and to promote the ideas promised to the people in election campaigns. But the set goals are not always achieved, Socialist MP Grigore Novac stated in the public debate “Quality of the political class: importance, current state and ways of improvement” that was staged by IPN News Agency and Radio Moldova.
According to Grigore Novac, the consistency in acts differs from one party to another. During the last few years, many political parties were registered officially by the Ministry of Justice, but only some of these are active, while others do not distinguish themselves. These make themselves seen mainly in election campaigns, once in four years, and state their opinions as to how the country should be governed. On the other hand, the parties that ruled during the last few years and are now in opposition also state their opinions as to what is good and what is bad and are now active.
“Since 2009 until recently, they ruled, formed alliances and now are in the opposition. It is up to them to decide if they have the moral right to point the finger and say that something is not good. I think at least their sincerity leaves to be desired. Each party is trying to distinguish themselves their way and to promote those ideas and things that were promised to the people. The people’s trust derives from the actions taken by political parties. When the consistency in acts and what the party promotes are not the desired ones, this evidently has an impact on confidence,” stated Grigore Novac.
According to the MP, neither the party he represents, the Party of Socialists, manages to always achieve what they intend to do, primarily because any taken action gives birth to counteractions. The parties are actually not the least trusted by people. In the case of the PSRM, polls show a different situation. “This is not true about all the parties. We cannot devote increased attention to those who try to tell us what to do. You can promote your own ideas. No one hampers you and tells you something,” he stated.
The Socialist MP noted that the political class in Moldova undergoes position changes, but it is regrettable that the political players who are behind these changes are those who didn’t manage to impose themselves and do something. “It is hard to anticipate where the opposition can come to terms with the current power. There are many actions that incline the balance in a different direction and we cannot come closer to each other,” said Grigore Novac.
The public debate “Quality of the political class: importance, current state and ways of improvement” was the 78th installment of the series “Developing political culture by public debates” that are organized with support from the Hanns Seidel Foundation of Germany.
