The Chisinau division of the Green Alliance Party seeks to create a coalition with the municipality which will be focused on solving issues related to the environment, public health and protection of green spaces, Info-Prim Neo reports Gheorghe Cebotari, the division's deputy chairman, told a news conference that now that the elections were over, the municipality should address environment-related issues without delay, as they could further aggravate. “Chisinau faces serious environmental problems that will continue to aggravate unless urgent measures are taken. Among the problems that must be urgently addressed are the rising air pollution, the continuously degenerating parks and squares that do not meet the standards of an European city, the unlawful constructions in public spaces. Within the city, there are sources of excessive pollution and unauthorized dumps, including radioactive waste buried in some residential areas, and in the suburbs, there are deposits with chemicals and organic pollutants”, noted Gheorghe Cebotari. The greens' proposals to the municipality include the protection, preservation, restoration and reasonable exploitation of natural monuments in the city; the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the beach and recreation area in Vadul lui Voda; the development of a plan to include Chisinau into the international tourism map. The greens also want to identify, together with the municipality, solutions to build waste processing and recycling facilities based on modern environmentally-friendly technologies; enhance residential energy conservation by introducing a system of repaying the costs of improvements; stimulate the construction of cottages using local environmentally-friendly, energy-saving materials. In the campaign preceding the mayoral runoff in Chisinau, the Green Alliance Party threw support behind incumbent Dorin Chirtoaca.
