About 5 million saplings and 30 tonnes of seeds were prepared for the tree planting campaign that is to be begin on November 13 and will involve personnel of central public institutions. The most important task is to be yet performed after the planting. The local public authorities and all the citizens should make sure that the planted trees turn into wooded areas and even forests. The message was transmitted in a conference held to launch the campaign “Plant your Future”, IPN reports.
On the first day of the campaign, 120,000 saplings will be planted on a total area of 54 ha. Minister of the Environment Iuliana Cantaragiu said about 400 administrative entities placed preliminary orders with the Forestry Agency “Moldsilva” concerning the necessary number of saplings.
The Ministry digitized the relevant information and the place and hour at which volunteers will meet to take part in planting works can be seen on its website. There can be also seen the sector/place where trees will be planted, the species that will be planted, etc.
Engineers of “Moldsilva” Agency will become involved to help the campaign participants choose the type of trees depending on the quality of soil and will give them other useful pieces of advice.
The works will cover about 130,000 ha of farmland that were recently excluded as inappropriate, wooded areas, banks of precipices, slopes, etc.
On the occasion of the launch of the campaign, Minister Iuliana Cantaragiu spoke about the new approaches adopted by the Ministry. “We plant and we also cut down,” said the official, noting that trees are now felled on protect areas too as the forests are regarded as wood, while forestry companies are obliged to make profit. She promised the approach will be changed by legislative amendments and by reorganization, primarily of funding for the forestry sector. “The forests are the lungs of the planet. They attract water, stabilize soil, produce oxygen and reduce greenhouse gases. We have discussions with the foreign partners that will help us with funds and technologies to achieve a new forest management level,” stated Iuliana Cantaragiu.
