About 100 Moldovan companies will benefit from assistance within the National Cleaner Production Program that was launched on May 22. Deputy Minister of Economy Sergiu Ciobanu said the purer production is a component of the Green Economy conception that can and should be implemented by the Moldovan companies, Info-Prim Neo reports. ”The industries based on reduced consumption of carbon do not develop sufficiently quickly in our country. Our duty is to stimulate the substantial financing and investments in technologies that will play an essential role in developing the Green Economy that is the economy of the future,” said the deputy minister. Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru said that this program is important because it will help the companies not only to make assessments as regards the use of water and energy, but also to reduce production waste. “We want the people to know that the production activities must be environment-friendly. This social aspect is also a component part of the program,” he stated. The three-year program was tested at five companies working in the construction sector and in food industry. Igor Merenko, chief electrician at SA Carmez, said that only the modification of the work schedule allowed saving electricity and gas at the company. The National Cleaner Production Program forms part of the Green Industry and Green Economy strategies that promote transition to sustainable industrial systems and sustainable development. By supporting such initiatives in the countries in transition and in developing countries, the UN, through the agency of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the United Nations Environment Program, contributes to the development and strengthening of the national capacities to provide Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production services to companies, governments and other organizations.
