The Green Ecologist Party of Moldova, which is a member of the European Green Party, notes that eight poling places for the May 25 European parliamentary elections in Moldova is an insufficient number. Representatives of the party said that because of this, the number of people who will cast their ballots will be lower.
The Green Ecologist Party of Moldova has two candidates running in the European elections, on the list of the Green Party of Romania. In a news conference at IPN, the chairman of the Green Ecologist Party Anatolie Prohnitski said the party is supported in this campaign by people of science and culture, the extra-parliamentary party “Democracy at Home” and by three environmental NGOs – the Ecologist Movement of Moldova, AVE Natura Association, and the public organization “Progresul Silvic”. The support group considers that the Green Party of Romania, by its electoral offer and its candidates, comes to improve things in such spheres as ecology, society and economy, including in Moldova.
The members of the Green Ecologist Party and its supporters believe that Moldova’s European aspirations will become reality when new living standards and environment and natural resources protection norms are implemented. Emissions of greenhouse gases must be reduced by using renewable sources of energy as these emissions are the main factors of climate change. This will enable to ensure the country’s energy security and to diminish its energy dependence on imports by about 30%.
The Moldovan candidates on the list of the Green Party of Romania are Alecu Renita, who comes fourth in the list, and Andrei Dumbraveanu, who is the seventh.
Alecu Renita told the news conference that a large part of the people in Moldova do not have access to drinking water. The wooded areas are small, while waste management is not developed and the population’s ecological culture is poor. Moldova’s Greens want to obtain funds to extend the wooded areas at least two times. They also want the country to be included in a large-scale European water supply project.
Andrei Dumbraveanu said that other candidates running in the European legislative elections do not speak about the risk of climate change and the objectives aimed at reducing it. The Greens of Moldova aim to promote green economy and to increase the number of jobs. The Green Ecologist Party will encourage projects to develop the nontraditional sources of energy – the water, sun, wind, and biomass.
Vasile Costiuc, chairman of the Party “Democracy at Home”, said that by fielding candidates for the European elections Moldova takes a historical step. He called on the Romanian citizens from Moldova to support the candidates who will promote the country’s interests in Brussels because they have a coherent and clear message.
The Green Party of Romania is the tenth in the ballots that include 15 parties and seven independent candidates. The sunflower is the party’s emblem.
