Green Ecologist Party criticizes state wood exploitation policy

The Green Ecologist Party (PVE) criticizes the state wood exploitation policy and asks abrogating a Governemnt Decision concerning the leasing out of forests. According to the party, based on this decision a number of forests are put up for auction. As a result, the natural environment in Moldova is in danger.

In a news conference at IPN, PVE chairman Anatolie Prohnitski said the ecological situation in Moldova is precarious and was inherited this way from the Communist government. Namely then the exaggerated exploitation of woods, water resources and biological diversity started.

The Greens said the illegal cutting of trees in the natural reserves of Naslavcea and Cernoleuca, the illegal auctioning of woods causes damage of dozens of millions of euros to the state, while the wooded ecosystems sustain irrecoverable losses. “These are ecological crimes committed in the wake of the launch of different environment protection projects and strategies aimed at attracting and criminally using the investments coming as grants from the European community,” said Anatolie Prohnitski.

The Greens referred also to the construction of the Cahul-Giurgiulesti railway, which, according to them, caused ecological damage in the humid area of the Lower Prut meadow. PVE first deputy head Alexei Palancean said the hydrographic network all over Moldova was destroyed. “In 10-15 years, the drinking water will be tens of times dearer than the cognac,” he stated.

The PVE is for Moldova’s accession to the European Union and considers the observance of the European environment standards as one of the conditions of the association with the EU.
