Greater pressure on Moldova will be exerted closer to the date when the Association Agreement with the EU will be ratified, considers the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat. In a program on the Romanian channel TVR 1, he said the government committed itself to ratifying the accord by the end of the spring session of Parliament, IPN reports.
Vlad Filat said the date of June 27 set for signing the Association Agreement is a realistic one, but the Moldovan government would like the signing to take place earlier so as to finish all the legal procedures related to the ratification and coming into force of the document.
“But we manage to ratify the agreement in the current parliamentary session. We set the goal of moving fast as we are in an extraordinary situation. We will prepare for the signing. The greatest external and internal pressure will be exerted before the ratification of the accord,” said the politician.
As to the way in which the presser will be overcome, Vlad Filat said Moldova is finally not alone. “We have these partnerships that produce results. Surely, the lesson taught in Ukraine must be learned. Apparently, impossible things happened. The events in Ukraine changed the security system. But this should not make us change positions,” he stated.
The politician also said that the Moldovan authorities are prepared for different scenarios. “It is evident that they will try to further destabilize the situation. We face a serious challenge as regards energy security. It was announced that from June 1 Russia will supply gas to Ukraine only after payment is made in advance. Moldova will also be affected. Threats were also made concerning economic sanctions,” said Vlad Filat.
After the Association Agreement is signed, it is to be reified by the Parliament of Moldova and by the legislative bodies of all the EU member states.
