About 20 agricultural producers will take part in a grape fair in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth” in Chisinau on March 24. The producers that in March remained with the cold storage facilities full of grapes will exhibit “Moldova” and white sorts for about 50 lei per a container of 8.5 kg. Last year a kilogram of grapes was 12.5 lei.
Producer Diana Crudu, who proposed holding such an event, has told IPN that extra grape production was witnessed this year not only in Moldova, but also at European level. The market in Romania was invaded by grapes from Albania and Macedonia. The Moldovan producers could not sell the grapes to Russia either. After the Russian authorities banned the entry of goods that transit Ukraine, export to Russia bypassing Ukraine became too costly.
Diana Crudu also said that she was contacted by a lot of persons, including from the diaspora, and was encouraged. The Moldovans can be empathic and receptive and the fair is part of the efforts to help the national producers. The fair is staged in Chisinau as the capital city has a greater purchasing power than other localities. It is an opportunity for buyers to purchase grapes at symbolic prices, especially during Lent, when the people eat mainly vegetal products and are willing to do good things.
The grape fair could be visited from 9am until 7pm.
