Grants for rehabilitating street lighting in nine communities

Nine communities in Moldova will benefit from street lighting at night owing to a project implemented by the Energy Efficiency Fund of Moldova. The ceremony to sign the agreements on the financing of the works to modernize the street lighting systems was held in the central park of Chisinau on June 17, IPN reports.

Attending the event, Deputy Minister of Economy Valeriu Triboi said that 21 million lei will be allocated for modernizing street lighting in the nine communities within the project. “We will do our best to improve energy efficiency and promote sustainable energy,” he stated.

Alexandru Botnari, mayor of Hancesti town, which is one of the beneficiaries of the project, said that this way they will save at least 40% of the consumed electricity. “Owing to this project, we will be able to light all the streets in Hancesti at the same price as that we paid so far for the illumination of the central streets only,” he noted.

The event was staged within the 2016 Sustainable Energy Week, organized with the assistance of the European Union.
