Grant of over US$3m for increasing agricultural production

The Republic of Moldova will benefit from a grant of US$3.105million for increasing agricultural production. Parliament on Thursday gave a first reading to the bill to ratify the grant agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, IPN reports.

The money will be used to attenuate land degradation and to increase agricultural production. The fourth part of financing under the Moldova Agriculture Competitiveness Project has a number of components, namely the strengthening of the capacities of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the Ministry of Environment, grants for women, and support for the rehabilitation of protective wooded areas.

The grant agreement will be implemented until the end of 2024.

In the same sitting, the MPs gave a first reading to the bills to ratify two amendments to the financing agreement between Moldova and the International Development Association. These envision the annulment of the building of the Otaci/Unguri Border Inspection Point. The money will be reallocated for renewing the equipment of the food safety laboratories in Chisinau and in districts.
