The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany and the Swedish International Development and Cooperation Agency (Sida) signed a cooperation agreement based on which they will offer a grant of €3.5 million for modernizing local public services in Moldova, IPN reports, quoting the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction.
In an official meeting, Minister of Construction Vasile Batca said the money is intended for continuing the project “Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova” for 2016-2018. “Within this project, we managed to improve the framework conditions for implementing regional development policies aimed at the people, in the main local public services sector,s such as water supply and sewerage, solid waste management, energy efficiency in public buildings and regional and local roads,” he stated.
The project benefits from the support of a number of development partners. Starting with December 2012, the Swedish Government has been one of the partners through the Sida, while the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) supports the efficient utilization of the offered financial support and the efficient implementation of projects.
The project “Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova” is implemented by the GIZ and is financially supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Government of Sweden, the Government of Romania, the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
