Grant culture project at Foundation for Moldovan-Japanese Relations completed

The project to improve the educational environment of the Japanese language that was financed by the Government of Japan through the Kusanone culture grants program during the fiscal year 2020 came to an end. The value of the grant provided by the Foundation for Moldovan-Japanese Relations was US$75,721, IPN reports.

The grant was used to purchase equipment and furniture for ensuring a proper studying process, including laptops for the language laboratory and Sanako Study software, an interactive whiteboard and projector, a multifunction printer, a digital camera and others.

The funds provided by the Government of Japan were used to install modern network and security systems and to renovate the ventilation and heating systems in lecture halls. There was also bought classroom and library furniture.

Created in 2002, the Foundation for Moldovan-Japanese Relations is based at the State University of Moldova (USM), being the only accredited institution in Moldova that offers programs to study the Japanese language, culture and history and to prepare for international certification of linguistic competences with the involvement of native teachers. About 125 students attend Japanese language courses at the Foundation yearly.

The project completion ceremony involved the Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Katayama Yoshihiro, USM pro-rector Otilia Dandara and MPs Monica Babuc and Igor Vremea.

On this occasion, Ambassador Katayama Yoshihiro thanked those involved in the implementation of the project, expressing his confidence that this will stimulate the relations and cultural exchanges between Japan and Moldova.
