Grain harvesting in Transnistrian region is over
In spite of bad weather conditions, 140,000 tonnes of cereals have been collected in the Transnistrian region, including 110,000 tonnes food-grade wheat. The amount gathered surpassed the double of the food needs of region, reports Info-Prim Neo, quoting an official website of the Transnistrian administration.
According to the region's economy chief official Fyodor Tsibulsky, latest statistics show that a hectare had yielded 1.9 tonnes of wheat on average.
“Although the drought had negatively affected the crops, the amount of wheat harvested has overcome by 1.5 the quantity gathered by Kazakhstan, where the yield was of 1.2 tonnes per hectare. The harvested wheat is of quality three and four, which means it is good for baking and does need improvement”, stated Tsibulsky.
In the same context, the representative of the Transnistrian administration mentioned that over 30,000 tonnes of fodder wheat have been collected. At this stage, the farmers on the left side of the Nistru are buying wheat seeds from specialized institutions from Ukraine and Russia to improve the genetic pool.
