At the suggestion of the special commission for reassessing the Baccalaureate test papers in physics of the 2017 session, the grades of 54 students will be increased by one point. Of these students, 50 studied exact sciences, while four studied humanities. Such a decision was taken after reassessing 187 tests, IPN reports.

The grades will be modified based on an order made by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research. The students will be issued with new Baccalaureate diplomas.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip, in the July 26 meeting of the Cabinet, asked to hasten the issuing of the order to raise the grades and to penalize the persons to blame for the incorrect formulation of the physics tests. “It is very easy to be negligent, but it is very hard for those who studied for 12 years to go through such an experience owing to those mistakes. I will be firm in this regard – those who are to blame should answer for what they did and should know the responsibility they bear,” stated the Premier.

In hearings held in Parliament, Deputy Minister of Education Lilia Pogolsa admitted that the tests for the Baccalaureate exams in physics contained mistakes. An assessment commission of the Ministry of Education identified items that contained improper language or didn’t have all the possible response variants. The commission determined that points 7 and 9 of the tests for exact sciences and point 8 of the tests for humanities were formulated incorrectly for the reason that they were inaccurately translates from Russian into Romanian.
